Orton Gillingham Reading Intervention
Utilizing Orton-Gillingham's multi-sensory approach to reading development.
Why a Reading SLP?
Reading is a complex process that targets many areas of the brain. To read a word we must visually process the information, map letters to sounds to create the word, access our semantic network to connect the word to meaning, use executive functioning skills to detect and correct errors and hold onto the word in our working memory while we read other words to form a sentence. A breakdown can occur in any of these stages of the reading processes. Speech-language pathologists are trained in cognitive and language assessments and intervention allowing them to target all aspects of reading and writing to create a comprehensive approach to literacy development.
